It's All About Food Namibia

A road trip that leaves more than dust in your shoes.

A Namibian cattle farm, run by farmers with a German background, somewhere in the middle of nowhere. Free-range farming that deserves the name. No marketing, just space, time and meat with flavor. Barbecues in lodges where even the horizon pauses for a moment. Fire on, meat on it, silence all around.
This is what the Namib landscape tastes like. Then down to the Atlantic. Swakopmund. A stiff breeze, Namibian beer brewed according to the German purity law, seafood straight from the ocean. Plus vegetables that are surprisingly vibrant thanks to sustainable farming in the middle of the desert.

  • COWDRAY

In the middle of the Kalahari. Dust, space, silence.
This is Cowdray Farm, where the Ling family has been breeding sheep, keeping cattle and accommodating guests for generations.
Today Günther shows me the cattle farm.
The animals get an extra portion of minerals - because the desert gives a lot, but not everything.
Water is not a detail here, but a survival strategy. The system has been working for five generations. Pipes, levels and reserves are checked every two to three days. Precision instead of romance.
And then: fire. Hot coal. Thick sirloin steaks. Simply barbecue where others only see desert.
This is what responsibility tastes like. This is what Namibia tastes like.

  • SWAKOPMUND

I continue my road trip through Namibia. And no - driving here is anything but boring. Wide open spaces, wind, horizon.
Then suddenly: Swakopmund. Beach weather at its best, Atlantic air included. A dry throat is taken care of. Because in Namibia, German brewing is taken seriously.
Thorsten brews a damn good Helles right on the beach. Salty in the air, cold in the glass - it couldn't be better. It's green too: Leonie and her team create an honest alternative here. Olive oil, herbs, really good vegetables. No frills. I meet fishermen on the way to the beach.
    Perfect.

  • SOSSUSVLEI

Sossusvlei is without doubt one of the most impressive stops on my route through Namibia.
This vastness. This silence. The colors that burn themselves into your memory.
Nearby: the Namib Outpost Lodge. Away from everything that disturbs. No noise, no pace, just landscape. From the pool to the cigar lounge, nothing is missing here. This place is just my thing.
What Hermann has created here is not a hotel - it's a retreat. And of course, a place like this needs a special barbecue.
So: everyone out on the terrace.
Sun sets, fire on, glass in hand.
    The perfect sundowner moment
This is Namibia at its best.
